Couples Therapy in Winnipeg

Couples therapy can serve many purposes. For some couples, therapy is an attempt to save a wounded relationship; for others, it is a way to develop communication skills and learn new tools. Whatever situation you find yourselves in, committing to couples therapy offers you a chance to deepen your understanding of your relationship and increase your satisfaction within it.

Brodin has advanced training in Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy and has been practicing couples therapy in Winnipeg for 9 years.

Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)

When it comes to the evidence, there really isn't another theory that can hold a candle to EFT. EFT is a therapy model designed to identify and break down a couple's unhealthy communication cycles. An EFT-trained therapist will be able to identify the root issues as well as the attachment patterns of each member of the relationship. Clients then have the opportunity to see themselves, their partner, and their relationship through a new lens, while the therapist guides them through corrective communication experiences and new levels of connection.

Healing Infidelity & Other Relationship Traumas

In EFT, relationship traumas are referred to as "attachment injuries". These are the most painful experiences of betrayal, abandonment, and violation that human relationships can generate. Brodin has advanced training in EFT's Attachment Injury Resolution model: a structured approach to resolving relationship trauma. It begins the same way as EFT, identifying unhealthy cycles and establishing a safe therapeutic environment where both members of the couple feel heard. Then, carefully guided interactions seek to answer what Ester Perel refers to as the most important questions: "How could you do this to me?" and "How do I know you will never do it again?"

Attachment:
Beyond Pop Psychology

Pop psychology and social media have reduced the concept of attachment to separate "styles". Many people take online tests hoping to discover their attachment style, and of course, many of the answers from these sources can be helpful. However, there is far more to understanding attachment, yourself, and your relationship than quizzes and reels. How could one style account for the complexity of connecting with another human being? Is there anyone who has never been avoidant, or only been anxious? Can't we all be a little disorganized in the way we approach meeting our needs in relationships? Attachment is profound, and working with an attachment specialist can have a profound effect on your relationship.
